On Wednesday I'll be having a full duct excision. Apparently only about 4% of these result in finding cancer but that's still a lot higher than the percentage of Lasik treatments that result in stuff growing inside your eyeball and I managed to score gold on that.

I think I'll be asking for a refund on this body. It's been rather crap really.

Irritatingly, I'll be straight out of hospital and back to the fricking dissertation. I can't even take time off to be ill. One only hopes it won't end up like my first Masters where the health problems I developed on that left me too ill to work for 3 years afterwards and permanently disabled thereafter.

  1. Good luck! Won't your tutor even give you an extension? Or is it a money thing?

    1. Also, it would be one thing if I were making great advances in knowledge with this. The end result is almost certainly going to be that I was unable to confirm the hypothesis, which given the hypothesis is hardly surprising. And that does not motivate me to strive for perfection especially since thanks to failing that exam last term thanks to Angus and his bloody bastardness, I can't get a distinction however well I do with the dissertation.

  2. It's more of a sick to death of it thing. I should have been finished by today but missing today's hand-in means I can't submit till August. However frankly I'd rather have my entire body amputated than spend another 3 months on it. So the intention is to finish it by mid May. At that point I'll either be in severe need of a holiday (the operation will be my first day off since January except for 2 days at a conference and most of those days have been 12-14 hours), or busy with further medical intervention. And yes, money. I need to start looking for a job if I'm well.

  3. Good luck hon, will be thinking of you.

  4. If you don't object I will mention you in my prayers tomorrow.

If it's any consolation (and I realise it probably isn't) I finally listened to what my Life Coach told me, have completely turned my life around and am having fun. With a real girlfriend.

  5. I am very pleased to hear that Dave - excellent news

  6. Thinking of you and hoping it all goes well.
